Compact crossover EcoSport is being prepared for another run. This smallest vehicle in this segment by US carmaker will be redesigned and launched as 2017 Ford EcoSport. Rumors say that vehicle could get other name, but these information are unknown so far.
In North America, company will have to remove ‘Eco’ from its name, so mini SUV could be called just ‘Sport’ or somehow different. However, by the time of planned released there are going to be made many changes, since development is in process.
2017 Ford EcoSport redesign
We have more than a year before 2017 Ford EcoSport steps into dealerships, but some info had leaked. This SUV and Fiesta were built on the same platform, which won’t be the case this time. That means we can’t compare it to this car and its features anymore. Now, new EcoSport crossover, or which ever name it is going to carry, will be more like new Ford Edge.
By that, expect three-bar hexagonal grille and new headlights shape. Body-colored bumpers will be installed on the more edgy rear end. New hood is possible for aggressive appearance. Furthermore, we know 2017 EcoSport uses a lot of lightweight parts, made of aluminum and carbon-fiber.
With lower overall weight, better fuel economy is at must. However, aluminum is one of many materials used by new vehicles for weight-dropping, but there is no lose on performance end. The 2017 Ford EcoSport will again use 3-cylinder engine. European models ride on 1.0-l displacement, while US market gets more powerful unit, probably 2.0-l with four cylinders. Output of this second engine is around 240 hp and 250 lb-ft of torque.
With these outputs, although 2017 EcoSport is mini-crossover, it can do great things off-road. Ground clearance allows that, but all-wheel drive system could improve that. Currently, plan is to release compact SUV in front-wheel drive mode. Also, development of new 9-speed gearbox is in progress, and this transmission is about to replace current 5-speed box.
2017 Ford EcoSport price and release date
Compact crossover comes early in 2017. It is still in development, and many things are not cleared yet, but SUV will be on time for planned release date. Experts predict that 2017 Ford EcoSport will be priced about $16,000, based on information about features and engines.
