2017 Alfa Romeo SUV

With almost a decade of first thoughts about it, seems like the time has came and Alfa Romeo will enter crossover market. Recent announcements from Alfa’s spokesmen made it clear – among changes planned for next few years is a new, 2017 Alfa Romeo SUV. Not too long after that, test mules were spotted on the streets, so it is obvious that we won’t wait too long to see what could Italian carmaker offer in totally new segment.

It is believed that 2017 Alfa Romeo SUV will share same concept used for making Fiat 500L. With a little bit of stretching, styling should be original, but pretty much the same as mentioned vehicle. This SUV platform brings also some modifications. 

Vehicle will be wider, and longer. Wheelbase gets few extra inches. Alfa Romeo SUV will be compact vehicle, but it will still face huge competition, although bigger models are more attractive and have more options. However, future plans are to bring mid-range crossover, but all development depends on new Alfa Romeo SUV’s success.

Since we have over the year before planned premiere of the new crossover made by Alfa Romeo, it is early to guess what could be found under its hood. However, comparing to some other models, from same factories and rivals, we can assume that something similar to 3.0-l V6 could be offered. Also, we can’t say that 2017 Alfa Romeo SUV won’t be available as diesel. Since it is compact crossover, four-cylinder powertrain shouldn’t be surprise if company decides to offer better mileage over performance. From this point of view, all-wheel drive system is likely, while gearbox is still unknown.

US market expects 2017 Alfa Romeo SUV with a lot of attention. Of course, there will be various kind of criticism, but it is natural when you show up with new stuff. This will be the first time for Alfa Romeo for such experiment, and they are probably satisfied with selling of their other segments in States, especially compact sedan and hatchback. Now it is time for something new, ambitious and even crazy.
