2017 Chevrolet Niva

New generation of the Chevy’s crossover Niva was presented at latest car show in Moscow. However, production model should arrive as 2017 Chevrolet Niva. As it was presented in Russia, SUV will be launched there during next year. Comparing to current model, this vehicle is much improved, especially on performance end by boosting its 4×4 system. Street tests are on the way and first photos of new vehicle have arrived, although it was heavily covered.

Current model of the crossover gets its power form 1.7-l petrol drivetrain with direct fuel injection. New 2017 Chevrolet Niva will have 1.8-l four-banger PSA powertrain installed under its hood. Manual transmission will be used again, with 5 shifts this time. All-wheel drive is standard, as it was before, and new Niva SUV can make up to 135 hp and 140 lb-ft of torque. 

It is possible that models with old, 1.7-l engine could be sold in Russia only, but this is unconfirmed information. Estimated fuel economy and speed performances are not announced yet, but improvement comparing to last model is expect.

The 2017 Chevrolet Niva is a part of cooperation between General Motors and Avto VAZ, and its basis are taken from legendary Russian off-roader Lada Niva. This, Chevy’s Niva is bigger, for around 26 cm. By that, interior gets more room, and US company will equip it with modern features. Also, comparing to current Niva, 2017 year model will get improved quality materials. Outside, ground clearance allows excellent off-roading, and almost everything on Niva’s exterior is big, including headlight guards, roof rack and wheels.

First appearance is expected in Russian market. Sale could start in first few months of 2017. According to current information, crossover will be released only in Russia, for the beginning, while rest of Europe will see it after few months. With exact price is still unknown, experts predict that price of new 2017 Chevrolet Niva will be the highlight and main advantage of this SUV. They say $13,000 is a planned tag for it, and if that happens, this vehicle is going to attract even these drivers who never planned to buy SUV.
